Granola is delicious! It’s a great topping on yoghurts, ice cream, mousses and my personal favourite – smoothie bowls!

But most are full of sugar and not nutritious at all. So I came up with my own recipe which is not only quick and easy, but only uses 4 ingredients that you can customise to your own taste.

If you want to eat it as a cereal, you could swap the weights of the nuts and oats around, 125g oats and 25g of nuts. Nuts are very nutritious and full of good fats, but a bowl full of them would make it a very fatty and calorific breakfast!

You will need

125g nuts. I used Brazil nuts, cashews and almonds but you can use whatever you like, a mixture of soft and hard is quite nice though.

15g of seeds. This one has linseeds, pine nuts and pumpkin seeds

25g oats

1tbsp of honey

2 sandwich bags

Put the nuts in one of sandwich bags and have fun bashing them! Be careful as the bag might split! Try and get a mixture of some really crushed and some just broken up, but everything should have been wrecked in some way!

Pour into a new sandwich bag if it did split, add in the seeds and the oats and shake to mix.

Add in the honey, seal the bag with no air and massage the honey into the mixture. At first it will seem like the honey is only covering a very small amount of the mixture, but keep at it and it will get there, don’t be tempted to add in any more honey. It will start to stick together in clumps.

Pour into a oven dish, I use one with sides so I can shake it around a bit, but you could do it on a flat tray.

Bake at 180 degrees for 10 mins, or until the mixture has browned and the seeds have started to split. Take it out and use a flat spatula to move it around the pan, unstick it from the bottom and give it a bit of shake. If it is golden brown put on the side to cool, if not, put in for a couple of minutes more but keep your eye on it, it burns easily!

Once cooled, put it in an airtight container and it lasts for ages, but it tastes so good it probably won’t last that long!
