Who’s the fairest of them all?
No, that’s not where I am going with this. Life isn’t about a competition to see who is the most beautiful.
But what do you see in the mirror?
Do you smile with confidence at yourself? Do you love what you see? I hope you do.
But I fear than many of you don’t. I think many of you reach immediately for the make up to cover up the things you don’t like. To paint on a new, happier version of you.
I fear that some of you avoid the mirror entirely as you don’t want to see. You get dressed and check that you haven’t tucked your skirt into your knickers, or that you have odd shoes on. But you don’t actually look at yourself.
And why?
How has it got to that? And what can we do to rectify it?
Because I look at myself and my heart fills with love. I have off days obviously, I’m only human. I have days where I look at my tummy and regret that entire box of chocolates last weekend, I look at my hair and wish it wasn’t so grey sometimes. But on the whole I can look myself in the eye in the mirror and love the image in front of me.
It hasn’t always been like this.
Turn the clock back 5 years and it was a different story. I was in my late 30’s and struggling with ‘midlife’ acne and it was really wasn’t much fun. Couple that with putting on weight as my body changed and looking 5 months pregnant and you can probably tell my self esteem was quite low.
I wish I had got more photos of that time, so I can show you the difference. So I could show you the dull skin, patches of eczema, big spots, greasy nose. A tummy that was bloated and out of proportion to the rest of my body. I was happy with my life, I had great friends, a job that I loved and family that cared for me and loved me for who I was.
But sometimes that is not enough.
We feel bad that it’s not enough, but we shouldn’t. It’s not vain to want to look good, it’s human nature.
If being happy with what you see in the mirror is going to unlock the confidence in you to go out and live your best life then what is holding you back?
So what is stopping you? Money? Self belief? Are you looking for permission?
I want you to comment below, or email me back with 2 answers.
1 – What is stopping you loving yourself – your skin or your body?
2 – What is stopping you doing something about it? Money, Self belief or needing permission.
